Marguerite Morin

Marguerite Morin is a French-Canadian artist raised in the small town of Kirkland Lake Ontario. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Ottawa in 2024 specializing in painting and drawing, and experimenting as a multimedia artist. The artist is currently most interested by identity in relation to nature, and questions the significance of existence in this vast universe.

Living in downtown Ottawa introduced the artist to a life that is distant from nature, a life unlike the one she knows. This living condition allowed her to further elaborate her questions regarding the place of the human condition “separated” from trees, rivers, and lakes.

In nature, we exist alongside the infinity of elements. In the city, we exist amongst the noise of our thoughts.

Within her art, Marguerite Morin explore aspects of The Self and her belonging on earth. She is fascinated by identity, and she wonders whether identity itself is meant to be understood. In her practice, oil painting coexists alongside natural fragments and installation, occasionally merging with drawing, photography, and poetry. She depicts questions of existence through landscapes, memories, and values rooted in her French-Canadian and North-Ontarian background. Morin aims to emphasize contrasting imagery to showcase the multiple facades generated from the complexity of our being. Through her work she wishes to measure equally humanity and existences outside of ourselves, to better understand who we are due to our surroundings.
