Marguerite Morin
Lost Between North and East
"The city welcomed me with open arms, but my soul belongs to the North."
I feel the crisp air of the North humming through my wool,
I’m cold, I shiver,
and start to reconsider why I left East.
I miss the sun, I miss my people.
But the air is easier to breathe here,
The fields, flourish with wildflowers,
The land, never-ending.
The people,
I am lost within this group, although its nature feels as mine.
Is nature enough?
I’m left with a bittersweet taste in my mouth, missing those who are like me, while knowing this land feels
like home.
Lost Between North and East is an exhibition that speaks of the artists troubles with belonging both to a place and to a community. After living in Ottawa for three years, she feels lost between two poles, she found herself in the people of the city, but did not feel at home in its environnement.
Lost Between North and East is Marguerite Morin's first self-run solo exhibition. The artist hosted this one-night event outdoors in her hometown on August 26th, 2023. This experience allowed her to showcase her art within her community, to sell artwork (all works sold), to present poetry alongside her work for the first time, to experiment with exhibiting outside of the gallery space, all the while getting the opportunity to speak of her work with strangers and friends.
