Marguerite Morin
Reminiscing Toffee & Mint
Introducing a piece of the city to the North
I took a bite of ice cream and was faced with familiarity. The taste of mint lingered on my tongue, reminding me of the breeze of the Abitibi and the soft spoken words of my mamie.
I felt discomfort as I relived my past elsewhere, knowing that my memory of mint was no longer only the confection of my grandmothers garden, but was now associated with two new souls I shared ice cream with on a rainy April night in Ottawa.
In "Reminiscing Toffee & Mint" Bella Laflamme, Chris Glabb and Marguerite Morin work together, for the second time, and present an exhibition where they each explore their own nostalgia through use of the painted surface. The artists hope for you to reflect upon your own nostalgia, inviting you to recall the faint scents, flavours and patterns of your childhood.
Dare to delve into your nostalgia, and may your dreams of yesterday stay and linger a little while longer.
"Reminiscing Toffee & Mint" took place at The Bridge Restaurant and Bar (Previously Kenogami Bridge Inn) from September 27th to September 28th, 2024. Viewers were brought into a window filled room, with artworks intertwined in between. A large tree sat in the right corner of the room echoing patterns found in both Glabb's and Morin's work, while the linear structure of the windows' reflected the architectural take of Laflamme's practice.
